• What type of services does Amistad offer?

We offer Skilled Nursing, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy,
Occupational Therapy, Nutritionist (San Antonio only), Home
Health Aides and Medical Social Workers.

• Do I qualify for home health care?

According to Medicare, a patient must be considered home
bound to qualify for home health services. Home bound is
defined as being in a state where leaving the home requires a
considerable and taxing effort. In addition, a medical need must
be currently present that can be treated at home.

• How do I receive home health care?

Most Medicare and Medicaid patients will automatically qualify
for our services. For private insurance patients and workers
compensation, our staff will try to obtain pre-authorization for
you. All you have to do is call and we will take care of the rest!

• Do I need a doctor's referral?

Yes. For Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's Compensation and most
Private Insurances, a doctor's referral is required. If your doctor
feels that you qualify for home care, just tell him that you want
Amistad and their staff will take care of the rest.

• Does Amistad offer private pay services?

Yes. If you do not have insurance or do not want to go through
your insurance, we offer very reasonable rates for all of our

• How can I receive Transportation Assistance?

The state of Texas offers a transportation system through the
Texas Department of Transportation called the
MedicalTransportation Program. This service was designed for
those who are enrolled in Medicaid and have a need for
transportation assistance between home and their medical
treatments. This service runs Monday through Friday, 8am to
5pm. Transportation is even available for those who live in
areas such as Eagle Pass and Del Rio and need to come to San

• How can I receive Home Health Services?

Anyone can make a request for home health care as long as it is
validated by their physician. If a patient feels as if they need
home health care, it is ultimately their choice as to which agency
they will go with. If you or someone you know has had a good
experience with an agency, be sure to tell your physician or
discharge planner of the hospital who you would like to take
care of you. The criteria to receive home health care is that you
must be home bound and have a condition that requires a need
for skilled nursing or therapy.
